Miami Laser Hair Removal, Frequently Asked Questions

1. How does the laser stop hair follicle growth?

When a person, male or female, undergoes a treatment, the laser equipment emits a beam that is absorbed by the melanin or the pigment present in the hair that lends it its color. This beam of light is converted to heat by the body which is used in destroying the hair follicles, which are sacs shaped like tubes, and are responsible for the production of hair growth. For this reason, these treated follicles can no longer lead to the effective production of hair growth.  Removal of hair by laser provides the most cost effective treatment available on the market.

2. Is laser hair removal safe?

Yes.  It is a perfectly safe and effective treatment for removing unwanted hair  from all parts of the body. We make sure that certain safety precautions are followed to keep the procedure safe, such as wearing laser safety glasses for treatment near the facial region. Our equipment and medically skilled professionals will be present at every step to make sure that your laser treatment is medically safe and does not lead to any long-term harmful side effects.

3. How many sessions does it take to stop hair growth?

While you will start seeing results after just one session, it will take several sessions to severely diminish the unwanted hair growth. Any re-growth of hair will be much finer and less noticeable with subsequent treatments.  In four to six sessions there will be approximately an eighty percent reduction in the growth of hair. To get better results, you should maintain the treatment with at least one session for the first few years.

4. How much does the procedure cost?

The procedure cost of a laser hair treatment can vary based on the area of the body being treated. For example, your upper lip treatment will cost a lot less than a leg or back treatment. For a accurate quote please submit your information using the contact form.

5. Is a laser hair removal effective for all hair colors and complexions?

The procedure works best if you have light skin complexion and have darker hair. The scientific reason is that the pigment of the hair and the skin contrasts with each other which makes it easier for the laser to enter the hair follicle and destroy it, thereby preventing the growth of hair again. This is not to say that people with darker skin cannot undergo LHR treatment. They usually will require more sessions to achieve the same results. The right type of laser also matters. Research shows us that long wavelength lasers work best on dark skin.

6. How much pain is there during the procedure?

You have no reason to be scared of undergoing the LHR treatments, as it is far less painful as compared to any of the traditional hair removal methods such as waxing. Also, the treatment hurts less than pinpricks depending on the area and is over much quicker too. The level of pain also depends on your threshold for pain tolerance. So, if you are someone with some pain tolerance, this treatment is not going to hurt at all!

7. How long does a session take?

The length and duration of one session for LHR treatment can take anywhere from a few minutes to one or two hours. It all depends on the size of the area that is to be covered under one treatment. Upper lips will take you just a few minutes per session, while if you are doing the treatment on your back or legs, it can take up to one or even two hours.  Multiple areas together will take more time.

8. Is there any preparation I have to do before a session?

Avoid waxing the area you want to laser for at least four to six weeks before the laser hair removal treatment. You can, however, shave as many times as you want during this time period. One of the most important things to remember here is that you need to stay out of direct sunlight. Sunlight causes your skin to get tanned and can result in pigmentation of the area which will not allow the laser to identify the hair follicles easily. Also, in case you suffer from intense nervousness, it is best to forgo the caffeine for at least 24 hours before the session. Finally, on the day of the treatment, we recommend you shave the area that is to be laser treated with a new and clean razor if it is an area you normally shave.

9. Is the hair removal permanent?

Laser hair removal does not permanently stop hair growth. However, it can drastically lower the growth rate of unwanted hair to the point you will not have to shave or wax the area. In a few sessions, depending on the area of the body, you will see a dramatic reduction in the growth of hair. With every session, your hair becomes finer and less noticeable. For more information please contact us for a one-on-one free initial consultation.

10. What kind of results can I expect after the first few sessions?

After the first few sessions, you will start noticing a significant change in the rate of the growth of unwanted body hair in the laser treated area. While hair growth will not completely cease, there will be a reduction of hair growth by almost seventy to eighty percent with four to six sessions. You need to maintain your treatments by doing follow up treatments at least once a year for the next couple of years to get even better results. The hair that will regrow after the treatment will be extremely fine, and you will have the liberty to forgo waxing or shaving once the treatment is completed over several sessions.
